Reconstruction of an existing performing arts theatre. The Village Theatre building was constructed in 1913 without a supporting foundation or concrete floor slab. Through consultant analysis, it was determined the existing building required too extensive of a renovation and the community would be better served replacing it. The reconstruction included a flat floor equipped with new “telescoping” seating that retracted to the back wall, making the space multi-functional for classes, rehearsals and special events. This new configuration also allows the Village Theatre to offer cabaret theatre with table seating, so the audience will be able to enjoy refreshments during performances.
The new 8,200 SF building utilized refurbished elements taken from the existing facade, including the neon blade sign and cornice. The lobby, gallery and public areas feature finished millwork elements constructed from old-growth fir framing, which was lumber salvaged from the demolition of the existing building.
LEED Silver for New Construction.
